I wrote this song in 2003 for Waseem Faris, an Iraqi musician I worked with in Dubai. He had left Iraq, not by choice, but by necessity and I realised how lucky I was to have always had control over my choices in life. The band called Tyrian was formed to perform this song (and others I had written) made up of great musicians living in Dubai at the time. My best friend, Ty Unwin, performed miracles with the recordings that had been made to produce this final version of the song. I have added pictures of the band and also images from the internet that seem to fit. I don’t know what the Arabic words mean so please treat these all as an image rather than meaning anything. Above all, the time I spent with Waseem taught me that the world is full of misunderstanding aided by a lust by some people for power and greed that get in the way of a peaceful existence. We used to talk for hours about wars, religions, faith and love, and realised that we had more in common than we thought. I remember Waseem once saying “it’s not the books that are wrong Mr Shaun, it’s the people”. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason, to listen more than we talk! I hope you enjoy the song.
